#EndWhiteSilence: An Anti-Racist Education

We can’t do everything all at once. But we can do more than one thing at the same time.

As a white racist-anti-racist, I solemnly acknowledge that this process is just that. It is a journey I must start, stumble, fail, start again, and continue.

I have resolve and am working to not fall back into my privilege, complacency, and return to “racist old normal.”

The rest of my white life, I choose to be uncomfortable. I have the choice and acknowledging that is uncomfortable.

I will choose to invest time in learning and teaching. I will choose to invest my money in businesses, nonprofits, and candidates that share and advance my values. I will vote every election for candidates who are working for anti-racist policies.

I will understand and acknowledge that nothing is perfect; I will often feel helpless and believe my individual, small efforts are futile.

It is then that I will pick up an article, a book, a podcast, or a movie and we will remind myself that I am brave and worthy of love and belonging, and I am powerful and can do more.

Because it is the very least I can do. THE VERY LEAST

I’m keeping track for myself of the real efforts I am making, also to see where I can do better or more. Where I stop short. I will share the first, and the other two are private to me, but it is a demonstration to myself that I can do all the things at the same time. Self care. Care for others. Invest in my values.

Explore my ongoing list of anti-racist resources, where I drop articles, podcasts, books, etc., that I plan to explore. There will be duplication, and there are probably a bunch of better resource lists out there. The volume of information is overwhelming - there are just so many hours in the day - but chipping away at this iceberg is possible.
